The WILD Network event convened development professionals, social-impact leaders, and changemakers for a timely reflection on leadership in a rapidly evolving sector. Against a backdrop of shifting aid systems, increasing complexity, and growing demands for adaptive leadership, the event created space for practical learning, honest dialogue, and cross-sector exchange.

This year, Executive Director, Enene Ejembi joined Founder-CEO of The WILD Network, Fiona Macaulay, to open the 2026 online session of the Leadership for Social Impact Forum, themed Uplifting Others and Yourself for Impactful Leadership. Convened by The WILD Network on the 12th and 13th of May, the sessions were designed to strengthen leadership capacity across the social-impact ecosystem, featuring sessions along these four tracks: Leading Yourself & Team, Leading Your Organization, Career Advancement and AI – Make it Work for You.
Conversations on both days underscored a central message on the role of effective leadership in today’s environment, especially the ability to navigate complexity, strengthen relationships, and remain responsive to changing realities.

Beyond anchoring the welcome sessions and daily recap, Enene Ejembi also anchored the Africa Meet session — a collaborative engagement designed to foster peer learning and reflection among attendees.
The Africa Meet session provided an important platform for participants to engage in open conversations about leadership within the context of their respective industries. Attendees reflected on their leadership aspirations, emerging opportunities, and the challenges shaping their professional environments. Discussions ranged from navigating institutional constraints and sector transitions to identifying new pathways for growth, innovation, and influence.

The session reinforced the importance of contextual leadership, recognising that while industries may differ, many leaders face similar questions around resilience, decision-making, team development, and sustainable impact. By creating space for participants to share experiences candidly, the Africa Meet session encouraged cross-learning and highlighted the value of community in leadership development.

Key Reflections

Across the various sessions, a number of interconnected themes emerged, reinforcing the realities of leadership in an increasingly complex social-impact landscape.

A recurring thread throughout the event was the importance of adaptive leadership. As leaders continuously climb the corporate ladder, interact with peers and carve a niche in their industry, the ability to navigate change with clarity, resilience, and intentionality while motivating their downlines is a skill that is needed.

The session outlined the need for a leadership with integrity, intention and trust, shifting power from the role/position to the interconnectedness of leader and subordinate. It highlighted trust as the foundation of growth within the workplace. A sense of safety brings out the best in others no matter what the relationship is, allowing them to receive and apply feedback and grow as a person.

There were also conversations on the urgent need to rethink systems, partnerships, and approaches to impact. Participants explored what it means to build approaches rooted in trust, shared accountability, contextual understanding, and a deeper appreciation of how systems shape outcomes. Whether through shifting decision-making closer to communities or identifying leverage points for broader transformation, the message was clear: impact is strengthened when institutions are willing to evolve.

Equally significant was the emphasis placed on peer learning and reflective dialogue. Through structured sessions and collaborative engagements such as the Africa Meet, interactive roundtables and a Masterclass on The Playbook for Women Entrepreneurs, blending evidence-based insights with real-world experience to offer practical, transformative strategies for female entrepreneurs, participants were able to share personal leadership experiences, exchange perspectives across sectors, and openly discuss the opportunities and constraints shaping their professional journeys. These interactions reinforced the value of collective learning, reminding participants that leadership development is often strengthened through shared experience and honest conversation.

Finally, the event highlighted the enduring role of trust, context, and relationships in driving meaningful and sustainable change. From leading teams effectively to fostering stronger partnerships and engaging communities authentically, discussions repeatedly returned to the human dimensions of leadership. Participants reflected on the importance of building environments where people feel heard, supported, and empowered to contribute meaningfully.

Ultimately, the WILD Network event offered participants more than technical insights or leadership frameworks. It created a space for reflection on the evolving realities of leadership within today’s social-impact ecosystem. Through shared learning, practical tools, and meaningful dialogue, the event reinforced the importance of leading with intentionality, systems awareness, and a commitment to collective growth in a rapidly changing world.
